Hydrogen Peroxide : Hydrogen Peroxide, Electrolytic Preparation |
|
Hydrogen peroxide is now manufactured in pure 30 per cent, solution by the electrolysis of 50 per cent, sulphuric acid, followed by distillation in vacuum. Persulphuric acid is formed by electrolysis and on distillation this reacts with water to form hydrogen peroxide: 2H2SO4 = H2S2O8 + H2; H2S2O8 + H2O = H2SO5 + H2SO4; H2SO5 + H2O = H2SO4 + H2O2. |
